In keeping with our company values, Barry Satchell has joined the “Carbon Zero” programme run by Toitu Envirocare, embarking on a process of identifying ways of reducing the emissions that arise from our day to day business, and putting these into practice.
We now have Carbon Zero status. To attain this, we carried out detailed monitoring of carbon emissions associated with our day to day work over a twelve month period, identified actions to reduce emissions, and purchased carbon offsets to cover our residual emissions. Our emissions monitoring and recording was audited by Toitu, who have awarded the Carbon Zero status. To maintain this, we will continue to monitor our emissions and find ways of reducing them.
Due to the nature of our business, the main source of our emissions is transport. We have commenced a transition from petrol or diesel vehicles to electric and hybrid vehicles, with four of our fleet vehicles replaced with hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). PHEVs run mainly on their electric motor, compared to hybrids that alternate more between their electric and combustion engines. We are also reducing our air travel and promoting a paperless workplace.
Outside the Toitu accredited Carbon Zero scheme, but no less beneficial to reducing global emissions, we are involved in identifying and designing green options for our clients including options for sanitation and solid waste facilities that substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
